Our Engagement Story!

Matt proposed to Vero during a hike in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. His original plan was elaborate - they would hike down to his favorite swimming hole ("Fishing Cove"), snorkel to a nearby sea cave, and while Vero was taking in the beauty of the location, he would ask her to marry him. Matt and Vero started the 12km hike with blue skies and sunshine - a perfect day. As the canopy closed overhead, the sky disappeared and Matt and Vero would enjoy the peaceful serenity of the Acadian Forest for the next couple hours. As relaxing as the hike was, Matt stayed suspiciously behind Vero so as not to be caught gripping the ring in his pocket every few seconds to make sure it was still there. When the canopy finally opened and the couple could see the beach, they were met with darkening clouds, heavy winds, and choppy water that would make the sea cave too dangerous to reach. While Matt quietly cursed at mother nature, he remembered that Vero had no idea what his plan was. He turned to her expecting to see the same level of disappointment on her face. Instead, he saw Vero smiling ear to ear in the face of the incoming storm. In that moment he was reminded of everything he loves about her. The couple walked to the beach where Matt would drop to a knee and ask Vero to marry him. In shock, Vero responded "oh my god are you proposing to me right now??" Both nodded at each other as Matt slipped the ring onto Vero's finger. They kissed, cried, hugged, and rolled on the beach for several minutes before Matt would ask Vero to please state her answer for the record... Vero, slightly annoyed, shouted "YES!" Matt and Vero would sit at the beach while the storm passed over the cove. They would watch seals fish for their lunch in the brackish water, talk about their plans for a life together, and wait around for another hiker to appear so they could ask for their first picture as an engaged couple. Eventually the skies cleared and they were off on their next adventure.

Vero painted Fishing Cove and included it on our wedding invitations!
